Week 9- Should employers be allowed to read their employees e-mail?

Employers vrs employees

As human beings we all look for our privacy, and the way of having our own space at home, work, school, and other places. Nonetheless, privacy it is an issue that cannot be applied neither in every area of our lives nor everywhere. Concerning work, I believe that things change. People must adapt themselves to the working-pressure system and the lack of privacy. The employers are the ones who own and run the company, for this reason they have the rights of maintaining a productive and professional work environment.

The working surroundings can presents situations such as employee’s laziness, harassment, use o drugs, browsing inappropriate web sites, and many others. That is why it is necessary to establish and perform employees e-mail monitoring. Employers by reading the employees e-mails can reduce the risks of harassment and employee’s laziness.

Moreover
I believe that privacy ends by the time you decide to work for an institution, person, or company. If the mail is for work issues, employers should be certainly allowed to read and make sure that their employees are performing their job well. Although I agree of allowing employers to read the contents of their employee’s e-mails; I consider very unfair the issue of employees who do not assume that these activities are being monitored. All employee should be informed about the monitoring process because there are some employers who abusing of their authority position; they do not inform anything to the employees, this is what I see unjust.

Working is a necessity and responsibility that we all going to have at some point of our lives. Therefore, we must just abandon some of our privacy and adapt to the working system. Concerning the e-mails monitoring, I believe that employers have the total rights of reading them; only if they are related to the work, in no other different circumstance.
