Week 2 - Addictive personalities

Consequences of addiction

Many times people ignore the serious damage that addictions develop on their life and health. There are some words that strongly draw my attention; they are from the prominent lawyer Ralph Nader (1934-?): “Addictions should never be treated as a crime. It should be addressed as a health problem”. How would you feel about the loss of a very close family member because he or she was addicted to a substance or harmful habit? Reality shows us how this critical situation of having a compulsive behavior is increasing and disintegrating our households and society. Depending on the kind of addiction someone has; he or she may suffer from many consequences such as psychological, physical, and economical.

Somebody with an addiction has to face psychological troubles. The addict’s life becomes a real nightmare. He or she experiences a huge mental change and transformation in his or her personality. Moreover, this person becomes aggressive and also suffers from long periods of insomnia. The addict’s body accustoms to a particular substance or behavior; therefore, his or her brain demands for it until it could become in mental disorders, “psychologically depending on it.” That’s why addicts suffer psychological problems.

An additive person is affected physically. By the time a person experiences an obsessive behavior, he or she starts to eat less causing weakness and a skin
ny appearance. If this person is addicted to surf in Internet; he or she will suffer serious diseases such as eye problems. This surfing addict will also develop droopy eyes and looks like slowly and with a tired physical aspect. The addict begins to suffer an impaired coordination and appears a wreck body. These reasons are clear examples of the many physical consequences addiction develops.

One who is addicted also suffers economical problems. Even though many addictions can develop financial shortages, the addicts to gambling, drugs and alcohol according to many reliable research; they are the most common to face extreme financial troubles. After engaging in an addiction, the addict begins to experience the compulsive behavior of necessity, and seek the way to acquire what his or
her body needs by selling his or her house, material objects, family or even his or her own body in order to get what he or she wants. Addicts experiment an economical disorder in the way of organizing their budget with the appropriate incomes and expenditures. All activity of economical organization comes to end. Thus, before you involve in an addictive activity I would like to advise you to think first on your family and your economic situation. Since, they could fall down in seconds.

Addiction is not an easy game to play. It only has harmful results and serious consequences such as psychological, physical and economical troubles guiding the addict to a painful death. People must be conscious before engage in any type of addiction because the solely purpose of an addiction is to disintegrate yourself, your family, and the society. I recommend you that before you decide to taste or use one of those criminal substances or behaviors think first on the pitfall developments, and that you are going to seek for our own final and the suffering of the people who are around you. Don’t even try to play this game!
