Week 13 - Microcredit in Costa Rica
Nowadays, money it is something that is not easy to achieve, and worse if we need a huge quantity. Fortunately, our country provides associations, cooperatives and ministries which facilitate the acquisition of the money we need to realize our business dreams and start to run and compete in the commercial market. One of those helpful associations is the PYMEs which provides credit information, investment opportunities, and other services available in the financial market, especially directed to the micro, small, and medium Costa Rican business.
Many people, especially women are benefited with this type of financial aid organization. Most of them are now entrepreneur women in the market, who started just with the idea and inspiration and currently they are successful persons. Men and other people are also benefited with this organization. It is helpful for any person who solely wants to start running their own business.
I consider the creation and improvement of these types of associations in our country very useful and beneficial. It is a way of collaborating with people’s happiness and success.

Week 12- Mozart effect essay
This is the case of the effects that Mozart has on people. It is surprising to know that there are many searches which prove that listening to Mozart’s music is useful for the improvement on the performance of certain types of mental tasks. Others support this thesis by articulating that listening to Mozart makes people smarter. I consider this as an excellent idea to be applied on kids who are starting a mental growth.
Children who are exposure to classical music have the beneficial effect in development and improvement of their mental skills. This brain stimulation has wonderful results in the way of behaving and thinking of those kids.
I consider that this classical music must be used with all the kids that are going to be born in our country. This is to improve in them a higher brain function. Therefore, our society will be overloaded of people with excellent mental capacity and the advantage of leading their mind beyond the envelope.

Week 11- My letter to the Ufest organizer
Mr/s. Ufest organizer:
I would like to congratulate you for such wonderful, educational, and inspiring activities that you schedule during the University Festival. I think that they were very interesting for each one of the ULACIT’s students. Even though I couldn’t attend all of them, the ones I attended were very interacting, but the most important thing is that I learn a lot from them.
ULACIT is an admiring and prestigious university that form professionals and educate persons. It is a university which worries about the formation of citizens and students as a whole.
The first activity I attended, I had the pleasure of learning about the food dishes of many countries such as Brazil, Spain, The United States, and others; dishes that I have never heard nor knew before. Furthermore, my knowledge increases with some history concerning music and cinematography. This activity, which the Composition’s students were in charge of, overpasses my expectations. It was a very enriching activity in all those areas.
Then I attended the Escats’ concert, which was very nice. Before this concert I have never known anything about this national band, but after it I staid impressed about the band members’ voices and the meaningful lyrics of each song they sang. During the concert, Escats members’ gave us some small speeches and anecdotes. From those anecdotes I learned how we as persons should start to appreciate those who are around us caring for us, and also to do not let others take away our dreams and goals.
Finally, in one day I enjoyed of two activities. The first one I attended was in the lobby where there were a national band group and dancers dressed with cultural clothing presenting some of the typical dances of Costa Rica. After their presentation; some people started to share us a few traditional and typical dishes of our country. In the other activity I attended; there were presentations about the history, geography, fauna, flora, religion, clothing, and many other aspects from countries such as Australia, New Zeeland, Slovakia, England, etc… In both activities l leaned about my county and other countries around the world. I consider all this information very useful because I will be able to apply it in any moment of my life, regardless of my profession.
We as students should be educated in all areas from the cultural, professional to the civic, and that is what this kind of activities such as the UFEST do. Great job Mr/s. Organizer!
Best regards

Week 10- Human rights group of Costa Rica
There is nothing more inspiring than doing something and knowing that what you did is useful or it makes someone happy. This is what volunteering people do constantly. It is certainly a privilege to engage in those groups which help poor and homeless people around the world. The ones who have the opportunity of participating in international volunteering gain great experiences such as living in another country, learning about another culture, and experiencing a different way of life. It is a wonderful manner of contributing to the world in a positive way.
Global Volunteer Network is one of those many volunteer groups that exist around the world. It is a human rights group which connects people with communities in need. It is a group that has organizations in numerous countries and Costa Rica is one of those. This amazing society helps the communities in need in all the areas; it offers projects in several fields such as community development, conservation, children orphanage, health care, teaching, AIDS, construction, and many more. It worries about the development of the poor communities in all the aspects.
I believe that volunteering fosters in people a personal and knowledge growth. Moreover, it is a rewarding action because if the volunteer work relates to the field of study of a person; it will be a splendid way of gaining practical experience and also contributing to the community. I would like to participate in this type of international volunteering works because as a future teacher; it would be very useful for me and I would feel good helping those who are in needed. It is easy to be part of this kind of volunteering organizations; people just have to be more than 18 years old and have the inspiration to help others.
I consider that this organization performs a great job in the society. It is fantastic to know that they are many people worrying about the poor, who must of the time are disenfranchised. These kinds of actions are also very useful for the volunteers because they learn how to appreciate all what they have and also acquire knowledge about other countries and cultures.

Week 9- Should employers be allowed to read their employees e-mail?
The working surroundings can presents situations such as employee’s laziness, harassment, use o drugs, browsing inappropriate web sites, and many others. That is why it is necessary to establish and perform employees e-mail monitoring. Employers by reading the employees e-mails can reduce the risks of harassment and employee’s laziness.
Moreover I believe that privacy ends by the time you decide to work for an institution, person, or company. If the mail is for work issues, employers should be certainly allowed to read and make sure that their employees are performing their job well. Although I agree of allowing employers to read the contents of their employee’s e-mails; I consider very unfair the issue of employees who do not assume that these activities are being monitored. All employee should be informed about the monitoring process because there are some employers who abusing of their authority position; they do not inform anything to the employees, this is what I see unjust.
Working is a necessity and responsibility that we all going to have at some point of our lives. Therefore, we must just abandon some of our privacy and adapt to the working system. Concerning the e-mails monitoring, I believe that employers have the total rights of reading them; only if they are related to the work, in no other different circumstance.

Week 8- Monasticism essay
The lifestyle of a person who chooses to live according to the monasticism is very different from the hectic life we accustom to have. I could say that this person develops like an isolated and solitary life. The life of the monks and nuns is like the hermit lifestyle because they must withdraw of many worldly activities, pleasures, materials, and others elements that belong to the world. The purpose of these individuals is to grow spiritually and acquire high religious knowledge; therefore, this implies asceticism which is to withdraw of the worldly satisfactions. The life of a person who practices the monasticism is totally different from our hectic life.
In addition monasticism includes certain activities that for us seem very strange. The persons who belong to a monastery perform some kind of activities either to grow spiritually or to help the homeless people. The most common activities that are to assist others are fasting, which is to refrain from one or two daily meals and use this money to help the homeless, or to carry out works such as teaching and nursing. Another activity which is to serve God or any other type of god is to remain in silence for very long periods of time and meditate for this way have the space to hear if the god wants to tell them something. Other activities that also help them to grow spiritually or to achieve a personal enlightenment are the prohibition against personal ownership, prayers, and the acceptance of bodily discomfort. This is how monasticism embraces certain activities that are not common for us.
Furthermore, monasticism is based on many rules as the same as most of the religious practices. As I mentioned before this life embraces a huge responsibility and discipline. This discipline is reflected in how obedient the monks and nuns are to follow the monastic rules. These rules are certainly restricted from the worldly pleasures. The religious leaders who have the authority are the ones established the rules to be followed by the monks and nuns. One of the Christian monasticism rules that strongly draws my attention is the celibacy, which is someone who is voluntarily abstaining from all sexual activities. These rules are followed by many of the monks and nuns for them to keep on being part of the monasticism.
Monasticism is a lifestyle which demands strict behaviors that are not so impossible to accomplish. A person who chooses this path has to extremely abandon the world pleasures to dedicate his or herself to the religious. That is why monasticism becomes a challenge for those men and women who prefer to serve God. This fact implies a strong responsibility and discipline. Becoming a nun would be pretty boring for me, but for the simple reason of serving God; there is a possible of make it becomes part of my future goals.

Week 7- My attendance to the Sunday Easter celebration in the United States
of The United States
That day on March, 23 when I woke up, I saw how my aunt as well as my cousins was sit together painting and decorating eggs with colored colors. After they done with the eggs; they took me with them around the neighborhood. They began sharing to their friends some chocolates eggs that they had bought before. Inside the other houses I saw how there were family members and friends decorating and sharing eggs too. But there was something that strongly drew my attention. The parents were hiding some of the eggs around the house, and then the children had to find them. They were having a lot of fun as a family. This activity is named Easter eggs hunt. It was really nice to see this type of closeness between family members. It even makes a few tears escaped from my eyes.
Then hours later I saw most of the Christians from the neighborhood going together to mass. My aunt told me that for the Easter Sunday many churches hold special services, which are to celebrate the Jesus Christ's resurrection after his crucifixion. That is why they went to church. Afterward she told me that most of the churches also prepare eggs hunts for make the children have some fun after mass. I saw it as a very cool idea.
It was really great for me to have the opportunity to see the customs of the Easter Sunday in the United States. There was a lot of union among relatives and friends. It was very cute to saw and learned about this important event. Regardless of the hunt and eggs sharing; The Easter Sunday is a celebration to share with love, company, and reflection. I would like to be there next year to appreciate and this time participate more in the Easter Sunday’s activities.
Annex:

Week 6 - Worldwide trend
Do you know in advance something about nowadays worldwide trends? At the beginning I did not know the definition of the word trend but after searching for it; I finally find the most appropriate definition. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary trend is defined as “A prevailing tendency; a current style or preference”. In these days they are many several events or inventions that are certainly calling people’s attention. But I would like to focus my essay in the part of a sporting event which is “The World Cup Soccer 2010.” The attention of this event is drawn in diverse aspects such as the joining of countries, the cultural impact, and technology.
At this time the trend in sports is the famous World Cup Soccer 2010, which is a popular event that joins many countries. From the beginning the World Cup has been one of the most watched sporting events through the entire world even surpassing the Olympic Games. This year the country responsible of its organization is South Africa. The tournament began on June 11 and end on July 11, and from this day the world is getting closer because of this activity. More than 32.9 million of persons around the world are daily following each one of the World Cup Soccer games. The World Cup Soccer is of course drawing people’s attention, every single person knows about this event. People in their house prefer to watch a soccer game from the World Cup than watch any other program that they usually watched. It is joining many countries into one. Definitely the World Cup Soccer 2010 is a trend in sports.
The World Cup Soccer 2010 improves the knowledge of African cultures. This event causes a huge cultural impact around the world. It becomes one of the most influential activities that exist today. The inauguration was full of several cultural dances, historical facts, great relevance, and behaviors of the South Africa citizens. By this way I and many other people learned more about this beautiful place. The host country disseminates in a gorgeous manner its cultural and artistic representations also the citizen’s customs, their flamboyant clothes and beliefs. Moreover this activity is also becoming a great help for this poor country that through many years has been facing critical economic situations. But now their hotels, motels, stores, restaurants, supermarkets, etc., are full of a big amount of people from all parts of the world. That’s how this event causes a great cultural impact in the world.
The World Cup Soccer 2010 would not be possible without the support of the technology. Technological development has been tremendously necessary for the World Cup be the event it is. Undoubtedly television and radio are the ones that commonly spread the tournament to different countries, and therefore make it a truly worldwide trend. So here is their relation. The improvement of new advanced technologies is also a plus for the sport. This is why the absence of technology would be a huge obstacle for make the World Cup Soccer becomes a trends in sports.
I consider this type of events a wonderful manner of making our world joined. It also has many advantages and positive effects in humans. So for me, the worldwide sport trend of the World Cup Soccer 2010 is one of the greatest. All the trends around the world should be as positives as this one. The privilege of seeing many countries become one; does not have any price.
“Many people think that soccer is a game of life and death, but is more important than that.”

Week 5- Self-esteem essay
Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror? Do you consider yourself a special and important person or you believe that others are better than you? I have a friend who was a very sociable, coquette, and happy girl. In terms of months she began increasing her weight, and developing an obese appearance. She started acting in a very strange way. She stopped going to sociable activities; she ended up with her boyfriend. She also began to spend most of her time locked in her room. All these were because she was facing a severe stage of low self-esteem caused by her physical appearance. Self-esteem covers all what are thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. The self-esteem of a person is reflected in his or her behaviors. Self- esteem is built in a long time period of life experiences regarding the aspects of triumphs, despairs, pride, and shame. Concerning this topic it is very important for every one of us to know about the attitudes of a low self-esteem person, the attitudes of a high self-esteem person, and the ways to raise our self-esteem.
A person with low self-esteem can be identified by his or her attitudes. Low self-esteem comes from a poor way of seeing yourself. A low self-esteem person has a bad opinion about him or herself. He or she seems his or herself as an incapable and valueless person. They constantly have the mind that they cannot do anything because they do not good for anything. They see themselves as garbage for this world. A low self-esteem person tries to avoid activities, and become an isolate person. They daily seem sad and with an insecure appearance. Low self-esteem people usually have the same expressions toward themselves such as: “For what I came to this world”, “I am stupid”, “What am I doing here”? “I am a good for nothing”, “I am ugly; that’s why nobody likes me.” They think they have less value than others. Those are some attitudes and thoughts that low self-esteem people develop.
A person with high self-esteem can be identified by his or her attitudes. High self-esteem comes from a good way of seeing yourself. People with high self-esteem leave shyness away. They are people very optimistic, bold, and sociable. They enjoy attend activities such as parties and concerts. A person with high self-esteem loves to go out with his or her friends, and be the center of attraction. Those persons have in mind that they are special and valuable persons. They struggle to achieve their goals; and they do not become in isolation no matter what happens. High self-esteem people usually refer to themselves with nice expressions such as: “I am very intelligent”, “I made a good job today”, “I am a good looking person”, “I am proud of my actions.” They tend to have a good perspective of themselves. Definitely, having a high self-esteem is one hundred percent better and healthier for you and for those who are around you.
Furthermore, they are ways to arise your self-esteem. We live in a negative society, and unfortunately we have to deal with those negative people. Society are the mainly responsible of making people suffer from low self-esteem, so is better to do not take with much importance the bad reviews or to allow others make fun of you. Also you do not have to try being like someone else. Begin to engage in lively and sociable activities. Be a positive person with positive thoughts and position expressions. Focus on your successes, needs, and desires. Try to the best in everything you do. Avoid seeing life so seriously. Enjoy every second of your life. People are the ones who put their own barriers in their lives. With these advices you will probably escape from any kind of self-esteem problems.
People do not have to pay so much attention to the external; they must focus themselves in what they have inside. A good self-esteem is the key to a joyful and successful life. So it’s time to start raising it. You are very special and valuable for me and for this world. Build up your self-esteem!
“The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment, it is not in luck or chance, or help of others; it is in yourself alone.”
Orison Swett Marden quotes.

Week 4- Honesty essay
It is always correct to say the truth and have good behavior. A person could become the most successful individual of this world and have a large list of academic titles, but if he or she achieves this success by deceiving, lying, or making dirty tricks. This person would end having no kind of knowledge and value. Being an honest person will become you an example to others. The roman satiric poet, Juvenal said “The integrity of the man is measured by their conduct, not by their profession.” The most important thing is to be honest and say the truth.
Being honest will give you peace. People who constantly perform their actions in an honest way are the ones who will be around the world with their minds and thoughts clear. They would not have to owe anything to anyone or think which lie follows. If you tell the truth, you do not have to remember or worry about nothing as simple as that. Say the true is not always easy but is the best we can do. Someone will be always thankful for the truth. This is how honesty will give you a peaceful life.
In an honest world there would not be so many problems. If every one of us had developed some of honest attitudes, this world would have been better. There would be more peace and less corruption. As a God believer I see the chapter 20 verses 16 of the book of exodus very important, in which God instructs us to act honestly. It is written in the Holy Bible in the part of the Ten Commandments, God said “Do not accuse anyone falsely.” The bible has all the answers you need for walk in a correct way, and honesty forms part of that right road. This is how with honest citizens the world would be better.
It is right to act honestly and have good behavior. It should be the best policy for all of us. People must have in mind these words of Thomas Carlyle “Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in the world.” Do not become one more of the same. You have the power to be the best in an honest way!

Week 3- Innovation week essay
Is it true that Costa Rica is characterized by having one of the best education systems in the world? Education must be improved by teachers with a very clear understanding of how important is the job that they have been performing, which is to form and instruct persons. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the word “educate” means: “To provide with schooling. To develops mentally and morally; also to provide with information.” Teachers are the ones that contribute in the formation, education and instruction of good citizens for the future. So in my opinion this job must be performed in a responsible and significant manner. Educators must improve their classes in a dynamic, interactive and innovative way.
Teachers should teach in a very dynamic way. Classes must be the most exciting process of learning in our life. Not always the same story of everyday. Professors must teach their classes with much enthusiasm. Trying not to become the classes heavily and tedious for the students. Teachers also must have the initiative to make some classes different from the instructional package that had been established. They must give the lessons with different and motivating activities improving the topics in a very dynamic form never turning off from the purpose of the lesson. So it not will be one day more of the boring schedule on the contrary; it will encourage the pupils to feel more thrilled about keeping on in learning process. It also will maintain the students more alert and focused on the topic. Pedagogues must also take in account the issue of that every single student has a different manner to learn, so they ought to improve their lessons in many difference ways. That’s why professors must make dynamical classes.
Pedagogues must also instruct classes in an innovative way. Teachers must introduce teaching strategies more adapted to our globalized world. The use of technical tools will draw the pupil’s attention. Classes improved with innovative methods will guide the students to face the actual technological world with a strong sword, which is the knowledge about it. It will also prepare them to become good users and masters of this advanced tools by the time they begin working. An innovative environment is important in the construction of the students because by more rich is an environment it increases and activates more neurons of the brain. Educators must have innovative manners of teaching.
In addition, professors must improve classes with more interaction between students and the teacher. There must be a close connection and communication between both. The educator must have the initiative to encourage or give their pupils the opportunity to participate and give their opinions, contributions or doubts about the topic. In lessons there must exist a continuing exchange with dialogues and formal discussions. This will make the classes more attractive and interesting for all who is in the classroom; and also it will lead the schoolchildren to be more inquisitive. Pedagogues must establish a trusting relationship with their kids. An open and direct communication with them will be the greatest thing they should do. They must leave the pupils contribute and express themselves respectfully with their perspective about the topic. That’s why interactive lessons must be improved by teachers.
Classrooms are full of eclectic students, so the job of teaching is not a very easy labor. Teacher must be responsible of the learning of each one of them. In a near future I am going to be in this same position; and I hope to do it the better I can, but now I will like to just motivate all the educators to teach with love and passion. If they do it, they would develop excellent results. Professors are the ones charge of stimulating their students to become good and prominent professionals. Teachers must improve their classes based on teaching methods more dynamical, interactive and innovative.

Week 2 - Addictive personalities
Many times people ignore the serious damage that addictions develop on their life and health. There are some words that strongly draw my attention; they are from the prominent lawyer Ralph Nader (1934-?): “Addictions should never be treated as a crime. It should be addressed as a health problem”. How would you feel about the loss of a very close family member because he or she was addicted to a substance or harmful habit? Reality shows us how this critical situation of having a compulsive behavior is increasing and disintegrating our households and society. Depending on the kind of addiction someone has; he or she may suffer from many consequences such as psychological, physical, and economical.
Somebody with an addiction has to face psychological troubles. The addict’s life becomes a real nightmare. He or she experiences a huge mental change and transformation in his or her personality. Moreover, this person becomes aggressive and also suffers from long periods of insomnia. The addict’s body accustoms to a particular substance or behavior; therefore, his or her brain demands for it until it could become in mental disorders, “psychologically depending on it.” That’s why addicts suffer psychological problems.
An additive person is affected physically. By the time a person experiences an obsessive behavior, he or she starts to eat less causing weakness and a skinny appearance. If this person is addicted to surf in Internet; he or she will suffer serious diseases such as eye problems. This surfing addict will also develop droopy eyes and looks like slowly and with a tired physical aspect. The addict begins to suffer an impaired coordination and appears a wreck body. These reasons are clear examples of the many physical consequences addiction develops.
One who is addicted also suffers economical problems. Even though many addictions can develop financial shortages, the addicts to gambling, drugs and alcohol according to many reliable research; they are the most common to face extreme financial troubles. After engaging in an addiction, the addict begins to experience the compulsive behavior of necessity, and seek the way to acquire what his or her body needs by selling his or her house, material objects, family or even his or her own body in order to get what he or she wants. Addicts experiment an economical disorder in the way of organizing their budget with the appropriate incomes and expenditures. All activity of economical organization comes to end. Thus, before you involve in an addictive activity I would like to advise you to think first on your family and your economic situation. Since, they could fall down in seconds.

Week 1- Personal presentation
I am a happy person. I like to sit with my friends and make jokes or go out and have some fun. In my family meetings at the moment we decide to play some games, I enjoy imitating celebrities; this is a cool pastime.
